Unique Landscapes to Discover by Car in Ibiza
The Most Spectacular Landscapes in Ibiza to Explore by Car
Ibiza is not only meant to be enjoyed on its beaches — it is also meant to be admired from the road. Exploring the island by car allows you to discover unique landscapes, hidden viewpoints, and scenic routes where the Mediterranean takes center stage.
Before you set off, two key tips to enjoy it more (and spend less): start early in high season to park more easily, and avoid the hottest hours if you plan to walk (there are areas with very little shade). If you’re choosing a hotel in Ibiza, San Antonio is a very practical base for getting around the entire island.
South Coast: Salt Flats and Dunes
Today’s route explores the west coast. From San Antonio, we drive along the bay towards Cala Bassa and Cala Comte. These are short stretches with easy parking; in high season, it’s best to arrive early.
Add a stop at Cala Tarida and Cala d’Hort to admire Es Vedrà rising from the sea. If you’re up for it, a short path leads to the Torre des Savinar, an old watchtower with spectacular views; don’t forget comfortable shoes and water for the walk.
Magical moment: watching the sunset from Cala Comte or Cala d’Hort, as the sky turns golden over the sea.
Rural inland (villages and tradition)
The interior of Ibiza is a perfect plan from San Antonio. Along secondary roads we head towards Santa Agnès and Sant Mateu, passing dry-stone walls and almond trees on a half-day route designed to disconnect.
In Santa Agnès de Corona we stop and walk up to the viewpoint. In winter the almond trees are in bloom; the rest of the year you’ll see fields and pine forests. It’s a great place for a break in a local bar.
The highlight is Sa Penya Esbarrada, the “Gates of Heaven”, a balcony over the sea. From there we continue to Torre d’en Lluc, a defensive tower with cliff views, and return to San Antonio feeling relaxed.
Romantic route (viewpoints and lighthouses)
We leave San Antonio heading north, towards Sant Joan and Portinatx. The road runs through forested areas until it reaches this former fishing village, now a quiet corner with several small coves and a main beach that’s perfect for a swim.
From Portinatx beach, a path leads to the Moscarter lighthouse, the highest in the Balearic Islands. The trail winds through pine forests with the sound of the sea in the background, and it’s best enjoyed slowly, taking in the scenery and the views of the cliffs.
The best moment comes at sunset, when the sky turns soft shades of colour beside the lighthouse and the sea feels endless. After the walk, you simply return calmly to San Antonio, with the feeling of having discovered one of the most special spots in the north of Ibiza.
Northeast coves (nature and tranquility)
We leave San Antonio heading northeast along the rural road to Sant Carles, passing pine trees and peaceful landscapes. On the way we discover almost secret coves, starting with Aigües Blanques, a golden-sand beach beneath cliffs, known for its relaxed atmosphere and slightly wild vibe.
The route continues towards Cala Boix, with darker sand, fishermen’s huts and crystal-clear waters where the pace automatically slows down. Very close by you’ll find Cala Mastella, small and simple, with a traditional fish beach bar, perfect for enjoying a slow meal by the sea.
The zen moment of the day comes with a swim in the transparent sea, surrounded by greenery, gentle waves and very little noise. After this dose of calm, it’s time to return to San Antonio with the feeling of truly switching off in one of the quietest areas in northeast Ibiza.
